Our
Travel Medicine Clinic is Open Monday - Friday 8am to 6pm.
We are certified by the United States Public Health Department
through the State of California and possess the official visa
stamp necessary for any required vaccines on the yellow card
International Vaccine Record. Currently the stamp is required
for Yellow Fever, Cholera and Meningitis to gain entrance
to certain countries.
Dr. Monahan's interest in travel medicine dates from his
studies in the Department of Tropical Medicine at the University
of Hawaii where he traveled extensively in Asia and the
South Pacific. He also studied in Durbin, South Africa treating
a multitude of tropical diseases at a large Zulu referral
hospital at the University of Natal. He's been involved
in Project Esperanca treating Brazilians in the Amazon Basin.
He's completed an intensive course in Tropical Medicine
at Tulane University, New Orleans.
Dr. Monahan is still an avid traveler and consults with
numerous medical projects in third world countries. All
but the rarest vaccines are kept in stock. Our experience
is that most people wait too long after finalizing their
travel plans to seek a travel consultation and the recommended
and required shots. We recommend that you make an appointment
as soon as your travel plans are completed, preferably 30
days before departure.

Many people call our office asking what immunizations
they require for their trip and then list their itinerary.
Since it is impossible for Dr. Monahan to accomodate all
these requests, we have evolved a Travel Consultation by
Phone. There are many places in the city that have access
to travel vaccines. Unfortunately, the staffing does not
posses the expertise to provide an appropriate regimen.
Should you wish to avail yourself of this service, simply
call our receptionist and ask for a phone appointment. You
will be notified of the time (usually 15 minutes) and you
will be required to pre-pay the consult by Visa or MasterCard.
Dr. Monahan will then call you at the prearranged time,
and discuss your travel needs.
Should you decide to attend our travel clinic later in person
to receive your vaccinations, any payment will be applied
to your time of visit payment. Travel vaccines are never
billed by us to Insurance, and are paid at the time of your
visit.
See Quilombo / Amazon
to learn why you should trust your travel preparation safety
to someone as experienced and up to date as Dr. Monahan.
Vaccination requirements vary constantly as epidemics evolve,
such as SARS, West Nile Virus, and Ebola.
